The
credit crunch took its toll in the UK as theft and
break-in into homes rose for the last quarter of 2008.
The period saw an increase of 4 %, a figure similar
to the number of burglaries in the third quarter of
the same year (2008).
Numbers
from the British Crime Survey were released April
2009, merely days after official unemployment showed
a record figure above 2 million in the UK.
While
a sharp drop was recorded in the area killings involving
knifes (down 12 %), robberies involving knifes were,
however, up by 5 %. The figures presented renewed
worries to businesses and individuals alike, seeing
a 4 % rise in burglaries at businesses and premises
within the last quarter reported in 2008.
